I'm learning UVM texturing and I applied a Unwrap UVM to the small demo model I made up for the purposes of testing out the uvm stuff, but now i'm trying to texture my real model and I have a problem. When I select the model and go to modify stack and try to add the "Unwrap UVM" to the modifier stack, its not in the drop down box. I also added the proper button to the tool bar but its grayed out when I select my whole model. If I select a tiny portion of it, it will work, but it seems like if I select a few certain poly's with the other polys it will gray out (ie a few f'd up polys messing the whole thing up) So at first I deleted the 1st poly i found to be causing problems (it took me an hour to track it down) Then I selected the whole model again and Unfold IVM wasn't enabled still, and there was ANOTHER poly messing it up. So i spent another 30 min and deleted that one. Then theres ANOTHER. If this continues there's gonna be big holes in my model! This model was made in Solidworks, exported as an IGS file, and brought into 3dsmax 2010. Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? EDIT: Heres a link to an example of the problem. Its a 1911A1 frame that cannot have the "Unwrap UVM" modifier added to it. It will allow like 99% of the polys to unwrap uvm but not all of them. Try to convert it to a editable poly, then select Vertex sub object mode, and weld all, @ 0.001 so the mesh if welded correct and wont have lose poly's And check the mesh for Ngons

www.armyofzero.com/media/CSP%20Modeling/1911A1-Frame-3ds.rarThere's a link to a 3ds file before converting to a 2010 max file. I highly doubt this model will be in the CSP mod cause i'm pretty sure someone else is already making a 1911. I was just using this model as a testing ground for the UV mapping. I have no idea how to do most of the things you said, but i did convert to an editable poly originally with no effect. Anyways ill keep trying to do the rest of the stuff you said. EDIT: I tried doing Convert to->Editable Poly but it does NOT add that to the modifier stack so I can't go into the vertex mode.
